The Pharmacy Department at New York Oncology Hematology plays a critical role in the treatment and successful management of cancer and related diseases. The availability of a specialty-trained pharmacy team allows for a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care and is an invaluable educational resource for clinical staff and patients, alike. Under the direction of a board certified oncology doctor of pharmacy, a team of four licensed pharmacists and seven pharmacy technicians prepare the individualized chemotherapy treatments as prescribed by the NYOH physicians. In addition to procuring and preparing traditional chemotherapy treatments, research-related drugs and supportive care medications, the pharmacy staff also oversees the safety of the drugs used at New York Oncology Hematology – from dosage calculations and handling procedures to innumerable safety checks. NYOH pharmacists also prepare the high dose chemotherapy used in the NYOH Stem Cell Transplant Program located at the NYOH facility at Albany Medical Center. And, they serve as preceptors for students of the Albany College of Pharmacy during their five week rotations at the NYOH Cancer Center at Patroon Creek. This commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient care allows the physicians and staff of New York Oncology Hematology to have the best minds working together. To develop new treatments. To achieve more cures. To make a real difference in the fight against cancer. |
